Funeral prayers of the slain stalwart of ANP and Senior Minister, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Bashir Ahmad Bilour was offered at Colonel Sher Khan Stadium amid tight security here Sunday. Later he was laid to rest at his ancestral graveyard adjacent to Syed Hasan Pir graveyard. Sibtain Hussein Gilani, the son of late prominent spiritual leader Maulvi Amir Hussein, known as Maulvi Jee led the funeral prayer.

The veteran ANP leader was killed in a suicide attack along with eight others after addressing a public meeting in the densely populated Dhaki Manawar Shah area near historic Qissa Khwani Bazaar of the city. The FIR of the suicide bombing has been registered in the Police Station Khan Raziq Shaheed.

Those who attended the prayers included Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Barrister Masood Kausar, Chief Minister Amir Haider Khan Hoti, Senator Farhatullah Babar, ANP chief Asfandyar Wali Khan, Interior Minister Rehman Malik, Minister for Communications Arbab Alamgir Khan Khalil, Speaker of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly Kiramatullah Khan, Deputy Speaker Khushdil Khan, Noorul Haq Qadri MNA, PML-Q Chief Chaudhry Shujaat Hussein, Mushahid Hussein Syed, also of PML-Q, and a large number of workers of different political parties participated in the funeral prayers.

Strict security measures were taken on the occasion.

Bashir Ahmad Bilour was critically injured in the incident and was rushed to nearby Lady Reading Hospital (LRH), but he could not survive. His body was initially shifted to his residence situated at General Bakht Khan and later to the residence of his elder brother Ghulam Ahmad Bilour, federal Minister for Railways.

The funeral prayers of the other victims of the incident were held in their areas of residence.

Meanwhile, the people across the province in general and in Peshawar particularly mourned the assassination of the senior minister while traders observed shutter down. The people were paying tributes to the bold stand of the late Bashir Ahmad Bilour against terrorism.
